|God - the Creator of all life and the universe is Holy, righteous, pure and perfect. In his almighty power he made a plan for life so that we all would be safe, live in harmony and so that everything would work out well. God's holy law, the ten commandments tells us how he wants us to live and to behave towards Him and towards eachother.
The world was a perfect paradise in the beginning of time.
The forbidden fruit and the tree of knowledge of good and evil in the Garden of Eden. Adam's fall
Innocense and knowledge of good and evil
Before Adam and Eve sinned and ate of the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, they did not even know what evil was. They did not know what it meant to lie, to steal, to be jealous, etc. They had never done such a thing and there was no one else who spoke of such things or did such a thing either. They lived in harmony with each other and with God. If anyone would have said to them: You should not lie. Then they might have asked: What is that? What is it to tell a lie? That sounds interesting. .. I want to know more. Perhaps I should try?
So God wanted to keep all knowledge about evil away from them.

The tree of life and the tree of knowledge in the Garden of Eden
The LORD God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it. And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, “You may surely eat of every tree of the garden, but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”
Why was Satan, the fallen angel allowed to enter the Garden of Eden?
Why did God allow Satan, the Devil to come near the humans and tempt them? He had created a paradise in perfect harmony, why risk it?
The prohibition on not eating the fruit of the tree also was an obedience test. God wanted to see if he could fully trust in the humans he had created. God wanted a tried relationship. But they failed. They went against God's will and where disobedient. They ate of the forbidden fruit. God wants to test our love and loyalty for him. Only when a relation is tested you can see if it is real love, true friendship or not.
"If Adam passed the test of obedience, it would be the means of God’s imparting eternal life to him"
It is likely to think that God wanted to give Adam an indestructible eternal divine body and give him eternal life if he was obedient. He probably wanted to give him a body as the one Jesus has. Adam was not worthy of this.
So then God made another plan for him and for all of us. If we learn to know his son Jesus Christ, if we become friends with him, believe in him and try to follow his example, we can be forgiven for our sins and enter into God's fellowship. Because Jesus took the punishment for our sins. Somebody else paid the prize for our salvation, God's own son.
And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
1 John 5:11
You are my friends if you do what I command you.
He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life.
1 John 5:12
And this is what he promised us--eternal life.
